Fitness in Fredericton: How Our Team Stays Active Winter into Spring
Although staying active in the winter can certainly feel like a chore, our team at Sweat Club nailed down satisfying fitness activities in Fredericton that have helped us feel our best all season long. Luckily, as we transition into spring weather, we can continue to incorporate many of these activities into our fitness regimens.
We’ve compiled a list of winter activities you can transition through spring to continue to help you enjoy the outdoors and feel your best!
Jodie
In Fredericton, we are extremely lucky to have so many awesome wooded trails that are accessible during the winter. Jodie loves spending time walking in the woods with her dog. “We both love to explore and enjoy the fresh air”.
A brisk walk any time of year is a great low-impact form of exercise that will get you outside and get your heart rate up. Walks are also known to clear your mind and work wonders for relieving stress as well as joint pain. Whether it’s 30 minutes or a couple of hours, you won’t regret going for a walk. As the weather continues to warm up in the Spring, there will be even more trails and parks to take advantage of in Fredericton.
Katie
Katie used to avoid cold weather at all costs, but in previous years she’s learned to embrace all the activities Winter has to offer to help her stay healthy. “I stay active in the winter by getting outside. I enjoy downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing”.
Crabbe Mountain is known across the Maritimes to have the highest vertical drop at 853 high. With over 30 alpine ski trails, there is something for every skill level to enjoy. Although Spring is upon us, there is still time for a few more runs down the hill in the sunshine!
Emma M.
Throughout the Winter Emma M. has maintained a healthy balance of staying active in and outside of the gym. Similar to Jodie, when she’s not working out at the gym, you can often find exploring the trails. “Snowshoeing and hikes through Woolastook Park have been my favourite this winter!".
Woolastock Park is known for its awesome hiking trail system that covers several types of terrain and runs along the Saint John River. Not only is it a great hike or snowshoe in the winter, but it also becomes especially scenic and accessible throughout the Spring. Our team definitely recommends this trail system for getting active and enjoying the outdoors.
Laura
While Laura still spends a lot of time at the gym throughout the winter months, she appreciates being able to escape to her parents at Skiff Lake. “I love to go skating and snowshoeing on the frozen lake. It's so nice to disconnect from my fast-paced life in the city”. As a retired figure skater, Laura takes any chance she gets to skating. Not only is it fun, but such a great form of exercise. Skating outside is even more refreshing with the fresh air. Although opportunities to skate on a lake are diminishing as Spring comes, there are so many rinks in Fredericton to take advantage of.
Stef
Stef strives to keep herself and her family active all winter long. She incorporates a mix of regular workouts at the gym with fun at-home workouts that her whole family can participate in. “No matter the season, I think it’s important our kids see that exercise is part of our daily routine”. Aside from working out, Steph and her family love to get outdoors. “We are lucky to live near a golf course that we like to hit up the golf course most days for a walk. We’ve also tried out some small hikes around NB that have been fun!". No matter where you live, finding a nearby trail is an easy go-to activity to incorporate into your Winter and Spring fitness routine. Getting outside and being active is a priority for Stef and her family, especially in the Winter. As we’re nearing Spring, she’s excited about warmer weather and to be able to enjoy the outdoors with her family even more.
Our team at Sweat Club looks for every opportunity to stay active, even amidst colder seasons.
Not only does it help with our fitness, but it also does wonders for our mental health. The trick to staying active in the winter is to find an activity you enjoy, even despite the cold weather! We hope we’ve inspired you to get outside and helped you find an activity you can enjoy as we transition from cold to warmer weather!
