Masters of Sweat: Meet Jodie
You were a frequent client of Sweat Club before becoming a trainer, what made you want to join the team?
It goes without saying that the Sweat Club community and energy is second to none.
Although the workouts still kick my butt, I wanted a new challenge. I love teaching and being around passionate & motivated people. Becoming a trainer at Sweat Club is the perfect “marriage” of all of the above and allows me to share my passion for exercise with others.
How did you get into the fitness industry?
I have been working as a physiotherapist at a sports medicine clinic for the past four years. This involves me making a lot of exercise programs targeted specifically to my client’s needs.
Although I have never “formally” taught group classes, I believe my background and knowledge of the human body/movement is going to be a great asset to Sweat Club. However, I love learning and I am excited to further my journey in the fitness industry.
What is one thing you wished you learned earlier in the fitness industry, or that you wish you could change?
I would LOVE for there to less emphasis on weight loss and exercise as “punishment”. I want people to be able to appreciate their body and all it can do for them. No matter their shape, size, ethnicity, and gender.
There is no form of exercise that is “better” than another. Get up and get moving by doing a form of activity that you truly enjoy and is meaningful to you. That is what is important.
What is your favourite thing about Sweat Club?
The community. The music. The team. The workouts. It only took one class and I was obsessed. I have tried many other programs/gyms/workout plans, but none have ever given me the drive, the challenge, or the fun that Sweat Club has been able to provide for me.
I love being outdoors with my fiancé, friends, and my dog, Rosco. Camping, hiking, running, snowshoeing, walking, you name it (okay, maybe except skiing but that’s another story). I also work full-time as a physiotherapist at a private clinic in the city.
I can often be found providing medical coverage on the sidelines at UNB games. I also coach with the Reds Volleyball Club (fun fact: I played volleyball for UNB). Finally, I really enjoy cooking and baking, I’ve been trying a lot of healthy recipes so you can expect me to bring some treats to the SC.
