The increase in at-home workouts has not come without shock. People are more empowered than ever to take their health into their own hands, and into their own homes for that matter! There are a few things that can help people get more comfortable with working out in their own space. Our team has compiled a list of tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your at-home workouts.

Join An Online Workout Community

Going to the gym or attending workout classes is a great place to form friendships with like-minded, motivated people. Just because you can’t physically make it to the gym doesn’t mean you can’t be-friend a workout buddy! Online workout communities are ideal for people who are striving to reach their fitness goals at home. Although not everyone is working out in the same room together, online workouts can offer the same sense of community from a distance. You know that everyone tuning into the online class is feeling the same burn as you are at home. Accountability goes hand in hand with having others in the online community who are counting on you to join the online class with them. Having online workout buddies is a great way to form connections and stay motivated. Another perk of joining an online community is having a fitness coach to lead your workout. Sometimes having to organize your own at-home workout routine is deterring in itself. Being able to tune in and not have to plan your workout is such a relief.

At Sweat Club, we are proud to offer two options for at-home workouts. We understand that some may not feel comfortable coming back into a gym setting. Fear not! We have you covered. Our founder, Laura Clendenning, launched her popular 28 Day Challenge back in 2018 and it can easily be done in the comfort of your home or taken to the gym. When the pandemic started in March 2020, we launched our Online Workout Community which offers nearly all the benefits of working out in the gym, from your computer screen. Not to mention, you can join for an affordable price! Joining an online community like this one is a great way to stay healthy and motivated from home.

Useful & Practical At-Home Workout Equipment

Some people think that you can’t get in as good of a workout at home because you don’t have all the fancy equipment like the gym does. False! It’s all about making use of what you have and being practical. Optimizing your at-home workout routines to incorporate the use of your own body weight is a great and easy way to feel the burn! Additionally, you probably have many household items that make a good replacement for gym weights. For instance, bottles of wine or laundry detergent make great substitutes.

If you really want to optimize your at-home gym, there are a few items we recommend to help you get the most of your workouts.

A yoga mat is good for gripping your feet during workouts and ensures your back is comfortable while doing floor exercises.

  • Music will surely help you get pumped up for your workout. Luckily, our fitness instructors make fun and energizing playlists you can check out on Spotify. Whether it’s your phone or a speaker system, crank the tunes!

  • Workout bands create resistance and help improve the quality of your workouts. Check out our very own Sweat Club hip band.

  • Sweat Club’s Pre-Workout will help energize you, while our BCCA formula will help you recover post-workout.

  • A water bottle! Don’t forget to drink lots of water before, during and after your workout.

At-Home Workout Tips from Sweat Club’s Online Instructors

Our dedicated and dynamic fitness coaches have taken on a dual role, teaching both in-class and online workouts. Here are some tips from Sweat Club’s online instructors to help you get the most out of your at-home workouts.

Jodie: Make a weekly workout schedule on Sundays. Choose a time, place and layout of what you are going to do for your workout so that your intentions are set for the week.

Katie: Make sure your workout space and time are free of distractions and leave your phone in another room.

Laura: Change into your workout clothes and put on your sneakers. Not only will you be more comfortable but this might boost motivation and prevent rolling an ankle.

Emma M: Don't always be so strict with your workout schedule. Allow for rest days!

Working out at home doesn’t have to be a daunting task. As with anything, it’s all about setting the right intentions and being patient with yourself. Sweat Club’s Online Workout Community and 28 Day Challenge are a great place to start to help you gain momentum and consistency with your at-home workouts. Start with tracking down some practical substitutes for weights around your house and in the meantime work on accumulating equipment as you need or want it.
